Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to the most common PH tax questions.

What is OneGuide AI?

A free AI assistant for Philippine taxes and BIR compliance. Ask questions in English or Taglish, compute your taxes with the calculators, and track deadlines — no sign-up needed. Answers are grounded in the NIRC, TRAIN, CREATE, and EOPT laws (knowledge current as of September 2026). It gives general information, not professional tax advice.

What is the VAT threshold in the Philippines?

₱3,000,000 in gross sales or receipts over any 12-month period. Above it, VAT registration (12%) is mandatory. At or below it, you're generally non-VAT and pay the 3% percentage tax — unless you elect the 8% income tax option.

Should I choose the 8% option or graduated rates?

The 8% option taxes gross receipts minus ₱250,000 (for purely self-employed) and replaces both income tax and percentage tax. It usually wins when your expenses are low. Graduated rates plus 3% percentage tax can be cheaper when expenses are high. Use our calculator to compare side by side — and note the 8% election is irrevocable for the year.

Do I still pay the ₱500 annual registration fee?

No. The Ease of Paying Taxes Act (RA 11976) abolished the annual registration fee starting January 2024. No more Form 0605 payment every January.

When are quarterly taxes due?

Quarterly income tax (1701Q): May 15, August 15, and November 15. Quarterly percentage tax (2551Q) and VAT (2550Q): within 25 days after each quarter — April 25, July 25, October 25, and January 25. The annual ITR is due April 15.

How do I register with the BIR as a freelancer?

Get a TIN if you don't have one, file BIR Form 1901 with your Revenue District Office (or online via ORUS), receive your Certificate of Registration (Form 2303), register your books of accounts, and get BIR-registered invoices. Under EOPT, invoices replaced official receipts as the primary sales document.

Is OneGuide AI a substitute for an accountant?

No. It helps you understand your obligations and ask better questions, but complex situations — audits, disputes, large transactions — deserve a licensed CPA or tax lawyer. Use the Compliance Hub to request a consult.
